Hello… it’s me again, your friendly neighborhood bridal muse. It’s been a little while, and I’ve actually been married for 10 months (!) at this point – don’t even ask me where that time went… but I’d never miss an opportunity to milk my bride-jilla status. After all, it’s never too late to reminisce on the best day/time of your life!
An unexpected side-effect of planning a wedding is that you naturally start to realize who’s most important to you. It all becomes pretty obvious when you start to narrow down the guest list, and especially when you figure out who you’re going to ask to be your bridesmaids (or groomsmen). Luckily for me that decision was easy – my 3 bridesmaids were my 3 best friends from childhood; and I didn’t choose a maid of honor, opting instead for a MAN of honor – my younger brother!
But no matter who your bridesmaids are, asking anyone to be in your wedding party is a Big. Damn. Deal. Whether directly or indirectly, you’re telling them they mean the world to you, that you want them by your side on one of the most important days of your life, and asking them to be there for you during one of the most stressful times of your life.
I knew that asking my BFFs to be my bridesmaids was going to be a really special moment that I wanted all of us to remember forever. So I planned a mini ‘proposal’ for them, complete with ring pops and a special lunch at Nobu in Malibu with an ocean view (so romantic!) to mark the occasion. It was almost as exciting as the day I actually got engaged… And thankfully they all said yes, because I don’t know how I would have gotten through the stress of planning and executing a wedding without them!
I’m sure by now you’d like me to stop gushing about my bridesmaids and get to the good stuff… what they wore. And I’m also sure it comes as no surprise that they wore HAH! (obvs)
Serving as HAH’s bridal muse sure had its perks, which naturally extended to my bridesmaids, and, more specifically, their dresses. I was honored to play a part in designing my bridesmaid dresses – with the help of our HAHmazing designer Rebecca. We spent more than 1 night sprawled out by the fire (it was the middle of winter at the time) till the wee hours of the morning excitedly concepting and sketching my bridesmaid dresses.
As soon as I saw the first proto of our SPLIT AT THE SEAMS, I knew that it was going to make the perfect bridesmaid dress. It’s a beautiful flowy chiffon maxi that went perfectly with the laidback Mediterranean vibe I was going for. Plus that copper rose color was absHAHlutely perfect. It was added to our SS17 collection, and went on to become one of our best-sellers! It’s such an amazing dress, made even better by the fact that it’s REVERSIBLE – meaning that everyone can style it differently and make it their own, in the way that flatters their body. And I should also mention that it’s machine washable! I know that everyone says this, but I actually mean it – it’s the kind of dress your bridesmaids will wear again and again. Trust me, they’ll love you for it.
Real talk: asking someone to be in your wedding party is asking a lot of them; it’s a HUGE commitment, both emotionally and financially. From engagement and bachelorette parties, to bridal showers and rehearsal dinners and all the support you’ll need along the way – it can be a LOT of pressure. With that being said, you can sweeten the deal by showing your BFFs how much you appreciate everything they do. Before we even started getting ready the day of my wedding, I handed each of my bridesmaids a box with the following:
– A satin robe with their name embroidered on the back for them to get ready in
– An anklet with the coordinates of the summer camp where we all met
– FACE MASKS so we would all be gorgeous the day of (not that they weren’t already gorgeous…)
And of course… some HAH!
It isn’t customary for the bride to pay for their BRIDESMAID DRESSES, but considering that all of mine were out of towners, I figured it was the least I could do
– BODYSUITS to wear under their robes
And just so you know… the gifting goes both ways. If you’re a bridesmaid, then you know that you BFF Bride is going through a stressful time (you could play a drinking game with all the times I’ve said ‘stress’ in this post… might even help to alleviate some of that ‘stress’… oops, guess you’ll just have to take another drink)! But all joking aside, planning a wedding isn’t all fun and games, and a little gift here or there will be greatly appreciated, not to mention she’ll love having a little something to remind her of this special time. Here are my picks for bridal gifts:
ANYTHING in ‘Something Blue’ – BRALITTLE, CHASE ME DOWN, T-STRING and/or COMIN’ IN HAHT (after all, it’s the official color of our bridal collection that I helped develop whilst in the throws of my bridal muse-ness)
A pretty BODYSUIT for getting ready in
Something sexy for the night of…
And if you REALLY love her, one of the beautiful pieces from our La Flamme collection…
